5 day guide to the Fingerlakes

FingerLakes New York

We recently had the opportunity to travel to upstate New York and we had a blast. If you’ve been to New York City, but have never been to upstate then you are missing out! It’s a totally different experience and something I would recommend to everyone. It’s so beautiful and such a vast difference when compare to the hustle and bustle of New York City.

Here’s the 4 day itinerary of our trip and I wouldn’t change a thing!

Day 1- Rochester, NY and Letchworth State Park

We flew into Rochester and spent the morning at the Strong Museum of Play. This was a great place for our kids to get out and play. The museum had tons of interactive stuff to do, and had numerous displays of old toys and games. My kids loved the video game section and we played a ton of old arcade style games.

From there we traveled to Letchworth State Park about is about 45 minutes south of Rochester. The park was amazing and the falls were beautiful. It was mesmerizing to sit next to such large falls and be surrounded by some much beauty. One of the best things about the park is that most of the falls and site seeing was just a few minutes walk from the car. Everything was so accessible and this made it super easy with the kids. We stayed in Mt. Morris for the night, which was a cute village and had several great restaurants to choose from.

Day 2- Hammondsport, Keuka Lake, and Corning, NY

From Mt. Morris we drove southwest to Hammondsport, which is the quintessential small town. It’s located right on Keuka Lake and has a population of less than 1000 people. We spent some time exploring the town square and getting ice cream at one of the local restaurants. There are a couple of wineries in the area and we ate lunch at Bully Hill Winery, which sits just above the lake and has gorgeous views. It was so beautiful and the lunch was amazing.

From Hammondsport we traveled to Corning, and visited the Corning Museum of Glass. The museum is amazing and offers several workshops to watch the artists work. We watched the glass breaking workshop and the hot glass demos. Everyone’s favorite was the make your own glass workshop. We all had the opportunity to choose the style of sculpture we wanted and we each got to choose our own colors. The museum staff was so friendly and helped us make our glass sculptures. The museum keep the pieces and mailed them to our house about 10 days later. It was a lot of fun.

Day 3- Ithaca

After spending the night in Corning we traveled to Ithaca to check out the Ithaca Farmers Market, which has been around since 1973. The market had a ton of fresh produce and tons of food vendors offering everything from Cuban food to wood fired pizzas. It was a great experience.

Later that day we traveled to our see our accommodations for the night. We were lucky enough to glamp at Ithaca by Firelight Camps. Glamping has been on my bucket list for so long and Firelight Camps met all of my expectations. We stayed in a tent with double beds and a cot that didn’t have any electricity. While it was cold outside we were all cozy and warm in our beds. It was an amazing experience.

Day 4- Greek Peak

We woke up and traveled to Greek Peak Mountain resort for some fun at the adventure center. The adventure center offers several activities including zip lining, a ropes course, and a mountain coaster. We had so much fun talking to the workers that were local to area while flying all over the mountain. This is definitely a must do if you find yourself in the area.
